A Muharram scene
Patna, 1807

The pictures made by Indian artists for the British in India are called Company paintings. This one depicts part of the Muharram ceremonies, which Muslims carry out in memory of Hasan and Hosein, grandsons of the Prophet Muhammed. Shiah Muslims regard them as his successors in the caliphate. The bamboo and paper models being carried aloft represent the tombs of Hasan and Hosein.

This is such a nice and True mirror to what we have lost in Present times. True depiction of marriage of Religion and Culture in earlier times. Now we won't see Muslim men wearing Pagdi and Dhoti Kurta. It's called un Islamic now. We have lost this openness. Same for people from other Religion also.

Dhoti and Pagdi was a part of Indian Culture adopted by the Muslims.

No women in Burkha! No dominating moon flags! Look at the unity!.... When will modern India learn?... Or is it a long process of hatred shadowed through false friendship that changes over time?
