Virgin and Child - 1605 AD

Single-page drawing after an engraving by the Flemish artist Bernard van Orley (1492-1542). Dedication to Shah Salim Jahangir before his accession to the imperial throne in 1605 and artist's signature at lower left above figure's knee. Void background. Inscribed.
Ink, gold and watercolour on paper.

Inscription Translation:
'Shah Salim, work of Ghulám-i Sháh Salím'
