Ongoing exhibition at the British Library, London:
Enter the world of the Mughals, one of the world's great dynasties, in our new major exhibition.

At its peak, the Mughal Empire stretched from Kabul in the northwest and covered most of the South Asian subcontinent. This exhibition is the first to document the entire period, from the 16th to the 19th centuries, through more than 200 exquisite objects.

It was inaugrated as a part of the Asian Art Week in London which has just concluded. This exhibition continues for a while and promises to be stunning. Among the many objects on display are some stunning miniatues including those from the Akbarnama!

Thanks to Akshay Chavan and Gabriela Avendano for suggesting this post.

If you're in London, dont miss it!

All these exhibits should be returned to their country of origin.

RBSI, there is another stunning exhbition on in the UK- at the Ashmolean in Oxford are on display some of the finest Company school paintings ever painted in India, from the collection of Lady Impey, wife of Sir Eliijah Impey, first Chief Justice of India. Would strongly suggest RBSI does a series of posts on the exhibition at the Ashmolean too!

I am sure there must be great antiquities....but 'covered most of the South Asian sub continent' is an exaggeration. Do google an image of the extent of the Mughal Empire .

should not it be returned to India as a national treasure? Or, they still consider it a dominion nation rather than a sovereign one????

Reparations now! http://www.dnaindia.com/analysis/report_beyond-anglo-trade-and-anglo-aid_1763489

This article provides a good account of the last of the jewels of the Mughal Dynasty that 'ruled most of the South Asian sub-continent'.http://www.tribuneindia.com/2000/20000611/spectrum/main3.htm

Arindam Sen, I think most of the Mughal treasure in Delhi had already been looted in the 18th century by Nadir Shah, Ahmad Shah Abdali, Marathas and Rohillas. Some of the museum collection may have been bought later by collectors.

The Crown should be returned to its rightful country, India. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bahadur_Shah_II

The best read about Bahadur Shah Zafar is a book written by Mahdi Hussain "Bahadur Shah Zafar And the War of 1857".
