Head of the Ganges Canal at Haridwar - 1876
Water-colour painting showing the head of the Ganges Canal at Haridwar in Uttar Pradesh by Sir Richard Hieram Sankey (1829-1908), c.1876.
Haridwar, situated in the foothills of the Himalayas is the first major town on the River Ganges at the point where the river flows onto the plains. The town has always been a major pilgrimage site for Hindus as it is seen to be blessed by the trinity of Lord Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma. The Ganges here is quite calm and clear and the many bathing ghats are always full of people performing their ablutions. The main bathing ghat at Haridwar is Hari-ki-Pari which reputedly contains a footprint of Lord Vishnu embedded in a stone. The Ganges Canal was completed in 1854.

Lieutenant General Sir Richard Hieram Sankey KCB (22 March 1829 – 11 November 1908) was an officer in the Royal (Madras) Engineers in the East India Company's army in British India, later transferring to the British Army after the Indian Rebellion of 1857 and the assumption of Crown rule in India. The Sankey Tank in Bangalore which he constructed to meet the water demands of that city is named after him. The high court building in Bangalore, Attara Kacheri, was designed by him and built by Arcot Narrainswamy Mudaliar. - Wiki
what is the need to write "Sir" , just calling the Richard Hieram Sankey is enough. It is for the brits to use the appellation Sir etc. Do you see anyone calling Sachin as Bharat Ratna Sachin Tendulkar in UK?
